Our body produces 1000mg cholesterol by day.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cholesterol
Our daily need is 300mg ( i assume that it is in addition to the 1000mg that our body produces, otherwise we wouldnt need any )

100g yolk contains 1234.9mg.

So as for our cholesterol requirement we only need 1 yolk per day.
Isn't that great?
How much cholesterol do we need? (from animal food)

In my oppinion cholesterol is a greatly misunderstood substance. When I read the book "Know your fats" by Mary Enig, I really was taken by all the misinformation and anti coholesterol propaganda that is published by varios government, media and organisations, seemingly with little or no reseach, or misunderstood, research backing it up.
Without any exact numbers, I suspect our needs might be higher than reccomended at this point.

It might very well be.fictor wrote:Without any exact numbers, I suspect our needs might be higher than reccomended at this point.
Also, its highly individual, as cholesterol is also (indirectly) involved in neurotransmitter activation, and how much cholesterol is required for activation very much depends on the 'sensitivity' of those receptors.
Also, it depends on whether you are a woman or not, and on how much cholesterol she loses during menstruation, for example.
Its also depends on how much sun exposure you get, regarding vitamin D synthesis.
Im sure there are countless other factors involved.
