According to the USDA there is only 10 mcg of selenium in 100 g coconut.
But according to the nutrient calculator it's much more.
Which data is the most appropiate and why ?
selenium in coconut

Re: selenium in coconut
Both are appropriate (both are Cocos nucifera).
The levels of selenium in coconut differ very much.
810 mcg was the average amount found in (12) coconuts from Latin American regions.
In the USDA the number of data points is "0", so i wonder how many samples.

Hmm.. I'm 75 kg, so 1125 mcg a day is tested to be toxic.Although selenium is an essential trace element, it is toxic if taken in excess. Exceeding the Tolerable Upper Intake Level of 400 micrograms per day can lead to selenosis.[20] This 400 microgram Tolerable Upper Intake Level is based primarily on a 1986 study of five Chinese patients who exhibited overt signs of selenosis and a follow up study on the same five people in 1992.[21] The 1992 study actually found the maximum safe dietary Se intake to be approximately 800 micrograms per day (15 micrograms per kilogram body weight), but suggested 400 micrograms per day to not only avoid toxicity, but also to avoid creating an imbalance of nutrients in the diet and to account for data from other countries.[22]
And they recommend 563 mcg mcg a day.
I use 100 gram coconut for a banana mango salad a day at the moment.
Because it's much better tasting with real coconut than with coconut oil.
But what would you say ? If I got those Latin American coconuts I get 800 mcg a day.
Should I lower it to 50 gram coconut a day maybe ?
Re: selenium in coconut
We dont know how much your coconut contains, as the levels vary widely.
Just listen to your body; it will develop a dislike for the food if it contains more selenium than it can handle.

Also, the body may readily adjust the absorption rate specifically for nutrients such as selenium, iron, zinc etc.
