Shouldn't pineapples be in this diet, because of the protein decomposing effects ?

They are included, but not because of the protein decomposing effects of some of its enzymes.
Our body can perfectly digest protein all by itself.
We dont need external enzymes to accomplish that.
In fact, you need a specific cocktail of specific digestive enzymes to
digest a specific meal.
Each meal requires a different cocktail, and consuming such protein-decomposing enzymes
does not contribute to a better-balanced cocktail.
These external enzymes are degraded by our digestive enzymes,
and the containing amino acids utilized for (re)construction purposes.

Pineapple burns tongue, but not pineapple juice, why?

Post by panacea »

Pineapples, if not really ripe, will cause my tongue to 'burn', or feel erosion-like after eating the whole fruit flesh.
However, taking the very same pineapple and juicing it with low rpm masticating juicer, there is absolutely none of this effect, how is this possible?

That's probably due to the bromelain: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bromelain

You're drinking the juice so it goes fast through the mouth and probably this protease enzyme doesn't have much time to 'work' on the tissue in the mouth.

Yes, thats probably it.
The protein-decomposing enzymes will still break down cells though,
but now in your stomach / intestines.

Ah dammit. I really like pineapple. So last I had a really ripe one, and I ate it and there was no problem at all. Also, I made some pineapple orange juice and it was delicious and no stinging feeling at all.

But now, I ate a whole pineapple and the tip of my tongue is really sore :'(. You really need to eat them if they are beginning to rot, this way they are so sweet and delicious. I can't think of a better taste than this. It's divine.
